Sinai Series: Identity, Destiny, Covenant, Calling, Purpose

Sinai is one of the most defining moments in all of Scripture. It is the place where GOD gathers His people, reveals His heart, speaks identity, establishes covenant, gives destiny, commissions calling, and clarifies purpose. Sinai is not just a historical mountain. It is a spiritual pattern for every believer and every church. Before GOD sends His people into the land, He brings them to Himself. Before He gives assignments, He gives identity. Before He gives mission, He gives covenant. Before He gives purpose, He gives presence.

This 5‑part series invites you to walk the same journey Israel walked at Sinai:

  1. Identity — Who GOD says you are

  • Destiny — Who you are becoming

  1. Covenant — What binds you to GOD
  2. Calling — What GOD sends you to do
  3. Purpose — Why you exist in His plan

Sinai is not the end of the journey. It is the place where the journey finally makes sense.

Sinai Series #1 | Identity

“You Are My Treasured Possession”

Scripture:

 Exodus 19:1-7
1 In the third month after the children of Israel had gone out of the land of Egypt, on the same day, they came to the Wilderness of Sinai. 2 For they had departed from Rephidim, had come to the Wilderness of Sinai, and camped in the wilderness. So Israel camped there before the mountain.
3 And Moses went up to God, and the Lord called to him from the mountain, saying, “Thus you shall say to the house of Jacob, and tell the children of Israel: 4 You have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you on eagles’ wings and brought you to Myself. 5 Now therefore, if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, then you shall be a special treasure to Me above all people; for all the earth is Mine. 6 And you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’ These are the words which you shall speak to the children of Israel.”

There are moments in Scripture when GOD doesn’t simply move His people; He defines them. Sinai is one of those moments. Israel had been delivered from Egypt, they had walked through the wilderness, and had witnessed miracles, provision, protection, and the power of GOD. Yet none of that compares to what happens at Sinai, that’s because Sinai is not about what GOD does, it is about who GOD says they are. Before GOD gives any commandments, assignments, instructions, or lays out the terms of the covenant, HE gives identity. The same GOD who spoke identity over Israel at Sinai is speaking identity over His people today.

When GOD says, “You have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I carried you on eagles’ wings and brought you to Myself,” He begins with a reminder. He does not point to their failures, fears, or past trauma. He points to His faithfulness. Identity is built on what GOD has done, not on what we have done. HE defeated their enemies, HE broke their chains, HE carried them and brought them to Himself. Identity begins with remembering who brought you to this moment.

Before GOD reveals their destiny, He defines their identity. He calls them His “treasured possession,” a phrase filled with covenant meaning. It speaks of being valued, chosen, protected, delighted in, and set apart. GOD does not begin with rules. HE first begins be establishing a relationship. HE then names them “a kingdom of priests,” a people who carry HIS presence and represent HIM to the world. Finally, HE calls them “a holy nation”. This does not mean the people are perfect but instead indicates they are set apart for HIS purposes. Our identity in the LORD is not earned, but it is given to us by HIM.

At the center of Sinai is this simple truth: “I brought you to Myself.” GOD did not bring Israel out of Egypt to make them productive. He brought them out to make them HIS. Before The LORD gives mission, HE gives intimacy. Before He sends people out into the land, He calls them up the mountain. Before He commissions, He draws us close. Identity is always formed in the proximity of GOD.

Everything that follows in Exodus, the covenant, the commandments, the calling, and the commissioning, rests on this foundation. Identity comes first and then the assignment is second. When identity is unclear, the gifts of GOD can be misused. His commands can feel like burdens instead of blessings. Our hearts can begin striving to earn what GOD has already given us. Sinai teaches that identity is not the reward for obedience, but rather the starting point of obedience.

Just as Israel needed to hear GOD speak identity over them, as the people of GOD today, we need to rediscover our Sinai identity. GOD is still saying, “You are My treasured possession. You are a kingdom of priests. You are a holy nation.” We are not defined by culture, politics, performance, past failures, spiritual gifts, or ministry roles. We are defined by the voice of GOD at Sinai. Identity is not what we do for GOD; identity is what GOD speaks over us.

Sinai Series #2 | Destiny

“At Sinai, GOD does not just reveal who you are. He reveals who you are becoming.”

Exodus 19:6
6 And you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’ These are the words which you shall speak to the children of Israel.”

Deuteronomy 7:6
6 “For you are a holy people to the Lord your God; the Lord your God has chosen you to be a people for Himself, a special treasure above all the peoples on the face of the earth.

1 Peter 2:9
9 But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;

At Sinai, GOD didn’t just tell Israel who they were. He told them who they were becoming. While identity is the starting point for all of us, destiny is the direction we are to move in. The LORD answers the question, “Who am I? when HE gives us our identity”. It is Destiny though that answers, “Who am I becoming in GOD’s hands?” Just like Israel, the each one of us today must rediscover the destiny GOD speaks over us.

When GOD said, “You shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation,” He was not describing their present condition. He was declaring their future identity. Destiny is declared before it is seen. GOD speaks to the potential, the calling, and the becoming that HE has planned for each of us. Destiny is not based on where you are but is based on where GOD is taking you.

Our destiny becomes rooted in GOD’s declaration and has nothing to do with our ability. Israel didn’t feel like a priestly nation, but their destiny was not about their feelings or their performance. Their destiny was determined by GOD’s voice speaking over them. When He declares destiny, He also reveals His intention. He says, “This is what I will shape in you. This is what I will form in you. This is what I will make you become.” Destiny cannot be earned because our Destiny is received from the LORD Himself.

Destiny requires formation, not perfection. Israel’s destiny was shaped through the wilderness, through their covenant with the LORD, their obedience, and being in HIS presence. GOD doesn’t rush to build our destiny. He takes HIS time to form it through seasons, trials, victories, failures, and community. By looking at it this way, we can understand that destiny is not a moment, but a journey.

Destiny applies to both the individual and the corporately to body of the LORD. At Sinai, GOD spoke to the whole nation, yet within that corporate destiny, individuals carried unique roles. Destiny is never isolated. It is always connected to the community of GOD. Your destiny strengthens the church’s destiny, and the church’s destiny strengthens yours.

The church’s destiny is the same as Israel’s. Peter echoes Sinai when he writes, “You are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people.” Our destiny is not to blend in with the crowd of the world, but we are designed to stand out and stand against the things of this world. As a result, our destiny is not always comfortable to work out because it is a calling from GOD.

Destiny is discovered at the mountain, not in Egypt. Egypt is where our identity was crushed, stolen, and a false identity was given to us. The wilderness is where the foundation of identity is formed in us. When we reach Sinai, this is where destiny is revealed. You don’t discover your GOD given destiny while in bondage. You discover it in GOD’s presence. Destiny is found in worship, surrender, listening, intimacy, and obedience. Sinai is where GOD reveals who you are becoming.

Sinai Series #3 | Covenant

Covenant says, “I am Yours and You are mine. We walk together.”

Exodus 24:3-8
3 So Moses came and told the people all the words of the Lord and all the judgments. And all the people answered with one voice and said, “All the words which the Lord has said we will do.” 4 And Moses wrote all the words of the Lord. And he rose early in the morning, and built an altar at the foot of the mountain, and twelve pillars according to the twelve tribes of Israel. 5 Then he sent young men of the children of Israel, who offered burnt offerings and sacrificed peace offerings of oxen to the Lord. 6 And Moses took half the blood and put it in basins, and half the blood he sprinkled on the altar. 7 Then he took the Book of the Covenant and read in the hearing of the people. And they said, “All that the Lord has said we will do, and be obedient.” 8 And Moses took the blood, sprinkled it on the people, and said, “This is the blood of the covenant which the Lord has made with you according to all these words.”

Hebrews 8:6
6 But now He has obtained a more excellent ministry, inasmuch as He is also Mediator of a better covenant, which was established on better promises.

At Sinai, GOD was not only revealing identity and destiny to His people, but He was inviting them into something even deeper. He was inviting them to share covenant with HIM. Covenant is the moment where The LORD declares who we belong to. This is the heartbeat of Sinai. It is that place where GOD binds Himself to His people in faithful love. When Israel responded, “All the words the Lord has spoken we will do,” they were not agreeing to a list of rules. They were stepping into a relationship of loyalty, devotion, and belonging. Covenant has never been a cold contract between The LORD and the people. Covenant is GOD giving Himself to His people and inviting them to give themselves to Him in return.

When we read the Ten Commandments in Exodus 20, we often see a list of “rules”, but GOD intended them to reveal His heart to us. They show what He values, what He protects, and what He desires for His people. The 10 Commandments are not about restrictions. They’re all about communion. They teach us how to walk with a holy GOD and how to live in a way that reflects His character. The LORD wants us to not only know Who He is, but wants us to know how HE is, so we can understand HIS love for us and in turn wants us to simply love HIM.

The Book of the Covenant that follows in Exodus 20 through 23 is often overlooked, yet it is part of the same revelation. In these chapters, GOD shapes a community that mirrors His nature. He speaks about justice, mercy, worship, rest, stewardship, and even spiritual warfare. He protects the vulnerable and establishes rhythms that form a people who live differently from the nations around them. Covenant is not only about belonging to GOD. It is about becoming like Him and taking on HIS nature.

In Exodus 24, the covenant is sealed with blood. Moses declares, “Behold, the blood of the covenant,” and the people are marked by a sacred and costly commitment. Blood signifies that covenant is binding and life giving. It points forward to Jesus, the mediator of a better covenant, whose own blood would open the way for us to belong to GOD in a deeper and more intimate way than Israel could have imagined.

Covenant has never been about earning GOD’s love. It is about responding to the love He has already given. It is the language of intimacy. Covenant says, “I am Yours, and You are mine. We walk together. We belong to each other.” This is the foundation of spiritual closeness with GOD. It is the place where obedience becomes devotion and where devotion becomes communion.

We want to take a moment and invite you to renew this covenant relationship with the LORD. It is a moment to say again, “Father, I belong to You. I walk with You. I receive the blood of the covenant that speaks a better word.” And as you do, the Holy Spirit will meet you with the same covenant love that was poured out at Sinai and fulfilled through Yeshua.

Sinai Series #4 | Calling

Calling is not earned; it is received. You don’t work your way into calling, you walk your way into

Exodus 23:20-23
20 “Behold, I send an Angel before you to keep you in the way and to bring you into the place which I have prepared. 21 Beware of Him and obey His voice; do not provoke Him, for He will not pardon your transgressions; for My name is in Him. 22 But if you indeed obey His voice and do all that I speak, then I will be an enemy to your enemies and an adversary to your adversaries. 23 For My Angel will go before you and bring you in to the Amorites and the Hittites and the Perizzites and the Canaanites and the Hivites and the Jebusites; and I will cut them off.

Exodus 33:12-17
12 Then Moses said to the Lord, “See, You say to me, ‘Bring up this people.’ But You have not let me know whom You will send with me. Yet You have said, I know you by name, and you have also found grace in My sight.’ 13 Now therefore, I pray, if I have found grace in Your sight, show me now Your way, that I may know You and that I may find grace in Your sight. And consider that this nation is Your people.”
14 And He said, “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.”
15 Then he said to Him, “If Your Presence does not go with us, do not bring us up from here. 16 For how then will it be known that Your people and I have found grace in Your sight, except You go with us? So we shall be separate, Your people and I, from all the people who are upon the face of the earth.”
17 So the Lord said to Moses, “I will also do this thing that you have spoken; for you have found grace in My sight, and I know you by name.”

As we continue our Journey at Sinai, GOD continues to unfold HIS revelation to His people. Identity tells us who we are. Destiny tells us who we are becoming. Covenant tells us who we belong to. Now, GOD reveals calling. This calling expresses what we are sent to do. For all of us who seek after the LORD and seek to follow HIM, Sinai is not the end of the journey. It becomes the launching point into what the LORD is calling us to do. From this mountain, GOD sends His people forward with His presence leading the way.

“Behold, I send an Angel before you to keep you in the way and to bring you into the place which I have prepared.” Calling begins with presence of the LORD. GOD did not call Israel because they were strong or qualified. He called them because they were His. You cannot work and strive to earn your Calling. All you can do is receive it from the LORD. We do not work our way into calling. We walk our way into it.

When GOD says, “My Angel will go before you,” He is revealing that calling is never something we do for Him. Calling is something we do with Him. He always sends His presence before He sends His people. Wherever He leads, His Spirit has already gone ahead to prepare the way.

Our calling is sustained by obedience. Exodus 23:22 says, “Obey His voice.” The strength of calling is not found in talent or ambition but in listening, responding, trusting, and following. Obedience keeps us aligned with the movement of His Spirit and protects us from trying to do things in our own strength

Calling is both individual and corporate. Israel carried a national calling, yet each person had a unique assignment within that greater purpose. The same is true for the church today. Your calling strengthens the church’s calling, and the church’s calling strengthens yours. Together, we form one body moving in harmony with the Spirit of GOD.

Finally, calling is sustained by presence, not human effort. Moses prayed, “If Your Presence does not go with us, do not bring us up from here.” Without presence, calling becomes burnout. With presence, calling becomes joy. The presence of GOD transforms assignment into partnership and duty into delight.

We invite you who sense GOD stirring a calling to take a moment and pray, “Lord, clarify my calling. Confirm my calling. Awaken my calling. Strengthen me, in Your strength to walk in that calling. Let Your presence go before me in every assignment.” Then allow the Holy Spirit to breathe fresh life into your heart, reminding you that calling is not a burden to carry but a journey to walk in with Him.

Sinai Series #5 | Purpose

“Purpose is not fulfilled by programs. It is fulfilled by people who carry GOD’s presence into the w

Genesis 12:3
3 I will bless those who bless you,
And I will curse him who curses you;
And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”

Exodus 19:6
6 And you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’ These are the words which you shall speak to the children of Israel.”

Matthew 28:18-20
18 And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.

Identity tells us who we are. Destiny tells us who we are becoming. Covenant tells us who we belong to. Calling tells us what we are sent to do. Purpose brings it all together. When the LORD reveals the purpose in our lives HE is telling us “why” all the others have been poured into us.  Through purpose the LORD is revealing HIS bigger picture, It is the reason behind everything.

When GOD said, “You shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation,” He was speaking purpose language. Purpose is bigger than personal destiny. While destiny is personal, purpose is much bigger because it is global. GOD’s purpose for Israel wasn’t just for Israel. His purposes were bigger because it was for all nations. It’s the same today. GOD’s purpose for HIS church is not just for the church, so it can be blessed, it is for the entire world so the world would know the One Who blesses, and the One Who is calling them to Himself.

Israel’s purpose was to reveal GOD to the nations through holiness, worship, justice, covenant, presence, and blessing. They were meant to display GOD’s character to the world. The church inherits that same purpose. Peter writes that we are called to proclaim the praises of Him who called us, and Jesus commands us to go and make disciples of all nations. Purpose is not optional. It is the mission of GOD’s people.

Purpose requires unity, maturity, and mission. It is fulfilled when the church walks in unity, grows in maturity, lives on mission, carries GOD’s presence, and blesses the world. Purpose is not fulfilled by programs. It is fulfilled by people living their lives as an example of HIS goodness and holiness every day, in every place, not just on Sundays inside a church building.

Purpose is fulfilled when we live as a priestly people. A priestly people carries GOD’s presence, represents Him to the world, intercedes, blesses, serves, and shines. Purpose is not complicated. Purpose is faithful representation.

As this teaching closes, the church is commissioned to live as carriers of GOD’s blessing. We are a priestly people, a holy nation, sent into the world with purpose. Through us, all nations will be blessed.

As you complete this series, take time to reflect back on Identity, Destiny, Covenant, Calling and Purpose. Then take time, serious time, before the LORD and ask HIS to reveal each of these in your life. Then ask the really hard question “LORD, how to do want to use all of this in my life so that others can know Who You are?” The LORD may not show you today, in this moment, but if you are open to listen and receive from His Holy Spirit, HE will show you and one day you will look back at this moment in your journey and you will see how HE has used you for HIS glory and honor. At that moment take time to stop and give HIM all the praise, all the glory, and all the honor. He deserves it all.
